Meet Our Founding Ambassador, Sam Cane

Sam Cane is one of New Zealand's most respected rugby players, having represented the All Blacks for more than a decade and served as captain of the national team. Throughout his career at the highest level of the game, Sam has experienced the realities of concussion and head knocks firsthand.

Away from rugby, Sam is a husband and father of two young boys, giving him a personal perspective on the importance of recognising and responding appropriately to head injuries, both on and off the field.

Sam has known Hit Kit® founder Helen Tufui for several years through her work with elite athletes at The Headache Clinic. Having seen her passion for improving concussion education and care, supporting Hit Kit® was a natural fit.

As Hit Kit®'s Founding Ambassador, Sam is helping raise awareness of concussion, encourage better preparation, and give New Zealanders the confidence to know what to do in the critical first 72 hours following a head knock.

Why Hit Kit® exists

Most people know what to do for a sprained ankle.
Not a head knock.

A head knock can happen anywhere, on the sports field, at work, on the farm or at home. Concussion isn't always visible, and there isn't a simple sideline test to rule it in or out. Yet the first few hours matter. Without the right knowledge, many people are left wondering what to do next.

The moment after a head knock
The moment it happens

What do you do in the moment after a head knock?

You know something is wrong. But concussion can be hard to identify. Whether you're on a sports sideline, a worksite, a farm, or at home - most people panic or freeze. Not because they don't care. Because nobody has told them what to do.

Hit Kit® was built for that moment.
